Approach to ETC 2008

The Conference is a key transport planning and applications event in Europe, providing an opportunity for transport practitioners and researches to offer a paper - an important part of professional development and networking.

A list of overarching themes is provided below, but this is not exhaustive. For ETC 2008 the organisers would welcome abstracts on any subject of relevance to current transport planning policy and practice in Europe. In particular we would welcome offers of papers, particularly from local and regional authorities, describing case studies and their results and outcomes.

In addition, the planning committees for ETC would like to encourage abstracts in the following areas:

  • Pan-European, national and local transport policy
  • Dissemination of the findings of EC research projects
  • Institutional frameworks
  • Comparison of standards and operating practices in transport
  • Comparison of modes i.e. passenger rail versus air
  • Planning and economics of heavy rail passenger transport
  • Excellence in urban and rural public transport
  • Understanding the key issues that affect the provision of good public transport services
  • Sustainable solutions to problems of land use and transport and how to measure and evaluate their effectiveness and impacts.
  • Integration of transport and land use planning.
  • Research and development in the planning of freight operations
  • Theory and novel applications in the fields of mathematical models, statistics, economic appraisal, data collection; stated preference; discrete choice
  • Examples of transport modelling and simulations; appraisal methods
